New Inventory 

This entry will reflect my thoughts about each painting.  I thought it would be neat for those interested to understand what was behind each creative piece.  

Nantucket Inspired Painting

See framed below

This painting really turned out great (in terms of the frame and everything).  I love that I happened to come across this old frame after I had started this.  In most cases, it is impossible to find a frame that 'fits' something because most of the older antique frames were not custom sizes.  Each frame is unique in appearance and also size. 

This is a little dark but the outer frame is painted an old black/walnut color with a hint of burgundy

This painting is finished on high grade canvas.  It is a one of a kind, as I have never painted anything quite like this one with the red sales and beautiful green/blue  water.  I love all the color on this piece and the finish is smooth and pops in the black frame with gold-leafed insert.   I loved the frame so much that I decided to have this painting rest retched to fit the slightly smaller antique frame.  This is a large painting.  I can see it over a mantle or bed or sofa.  

The dog painting measures 17 1/2" x 14 1/2"
The horse and rider measures 16"x13"
Both of these bottom pieces are featured in antique frames. 

The top painting is a larger piece.  It is painted around the holiday Halloween and is called Trick or Treat!  Truthfully, the trick or treat theme was embellished much later in the process.  At first it was about neighbors who borrow things...brooms, rakes, eggs, sugar, etc.  After looking at it a bit, I decided that it was definitely more spooky and needed to be about halloween.  If you read my blog, you'll know that my neighbor boys (growing up) 

threw eggs at us while we walked down the street in our 'costumes.'  No one was hurt, but they did get in trouble--every year.  

This is a reproduction frame.  It is brand new.

The middle piece is a snow scene and gives the idea of someone on a quest or a journey.  I really love the horizon on this painting.  It is soft and mysterious.  

The bottom pice is about a black lab dog.  I love the folky bird front and off center!  This might be my new favorite dog painting.  The frame had been met mother's.  We found it in her attic!

It's always good to have some closeups!  Look at the moodiness in this painting.  I love the soft tones.  (check out the soft horizon and mountain in the distance!)  This frame, too, was my mom's!

Maps are a nice compliment to nautical paintings.  Marth's Vineyard is 10 1/4" x 7 1/4'

Always loving maps.  These two are around Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket!  Sister islands! My fascination with these two places has always existed.  Everything about Nantucket, I love.  The cobblestone streets are something I always think about when I talk about Nantucket.  Also, I adore a good whale painting or carving!

This painting is featured in a beautiful handmade red frame that comes from Lancaster County and is very large.  The guy who made it was in his late 80s.  He even signed it!  His first name is Rufus.  How's that for follky?

Here's a good closeup! The girl front and center is ME.  I actually identified myself in the painting.  It was sort of a "where's Waldo" moment.  The building along the water is a boathouse.  Hey, don't you wish you had a holiday house like this to visit annually?

Last but not least in the snow department, is this little guy.  He's really fun with a soft look.  I really like him.  

MERMAIDS 

The series below is about mermaids and what they do on the water!  The sizes are typical for a Currier and Ives frame.    These are medium pieces.  I had about a 1/2 or so of these frames and decided they were beautiful enough to do a series around them.

All mermaids worth their salt like to look for shells.  That's what I did when I was a youngin and that's a good beachcomber does today.

Sorry, but the cellphone thing was funny to me.  That is what people do on the beach (it seems) or just about anywhere...TAKE SELFIES.  I love her polka-dotted top!

Eating on the beach?  Why, Yes!  Every morning, we would pack our cooler and eat all day on the beach.  Today, you have to guard your sandwich so much more than you used to have to!  Those birds...they will steal your food faster than a pirate.

LANDSCAPES

This is such a fun painting and was very popular on Instagram! Things I loved while painting this was the saltbox (my first house) and the stone wall/bridge.  I would travel out of my way to see this scene!  How about you?  The red frame is so beautiful and came straight off a barn in Lancaster, PA.  

This painting makes me smile.  Anything Pumpkin reminds me of Nina Fletcher Little.  She used to live in a pumpkin colored house in New England.  This is the queen of folk art.  Her collection of paintings was exquisite and I happen to own some of her things.  Fun times!

LOOK at the reindeer.   Usually, the sleighs are pulled by horses, the reindeer makes this piece unique from my other paintings.  The glass on this piece is the best I have seen in a while...It is so wonderfully wavy.  The Large piece below is expensive.  I am going to take it, but to be honest, it's been in my living room so long, I sort of want to keep it.  It measures about 36"x80"  (Think bedroom door size - that's how large.)

The edge on this is grained.  

Why did I paint such an enormous painting?  Well, I painted it because I happen to have a large living room and I needed a big scaled piece of art.  There's nothing worse than having a large wall and some weak smallish painting on it.  UGH!

I HAPPENED TO LOVE THIS ABOVE PAINTING SO MUCH THAT I MADE MY BUSINESS CARD FROM IT!  CHECK IT OUT.

This painting was inspired by an antique diorama that I purchased years ago.  I really love this object.  I tried to replicate the look in this above piece.  I love the water and light hitting it from various places.

This painting is fun.  Riding a swan might not be possible, but it's fun to imagine.    That a is what I like about folk art.  It's surreal and spikes the imagination.  The colors pop.  The frame is very nice and antique.  Lemon gold!

Below at the bottom is a PEN AND INK  piece.  I thought it hung quite well with the maps! I love this medium because you can slip it in with the other more colorful pieces, and it compliments!

This is a more simple frame.  I embellished it in the center because I happen to love the use of shells in artwork.  I like glitter, too, oh no.

The frame on this bottom piece is light blue (periwinkle) and was handmade by that same Amish gentleman mentioned above! You go Rufus!  Your stuff is great.

These are smaller paintings (George and Martha).  They are featured in a grained antique frame and are about 8x10" - inside dimension  

  I love the folky flower and bird! 

I really am interested in historical art.  At first, I just painted two portraits.  I kept thinking, these are boring and need something.  That was when I thought about the fraktur art that I own and the period that this type of art reflected.  Bringing the birds into these paintings draws the viewer into a different feel.  It makes boring whimsical! 

This is the donated piece.  If anyone wants this one, you'll have to call the Wilton Historical Society  to bid or be present!  This little guy is like 4" round!

The next painting (below) I have had hanging in my living room for a little while, everyone that sees it loves it.  I don't know if it photographs as well as it really looks in real time!  

I love the shells.  I love the dark umbrella.  Wouldn't this be so cute as a greeting card??

The ship is like the one above (or should I say, it inspired me!)

Prints - I am going to bring a few prints.  Not a lot will be brought.  If you have interest in a particular print that I did not choose to take to Wilton, I can always accommodate you!  

I am taking these pieces, too, in print form. 

These are small mat sized floor cloths with my art printed on them.  They will be at my show, too!

EAGLES 

Three eagles!  I always try to take something patriotic.  These fit the bill.  

THE SIZE ON THE EAGLES - 12"X15" Outside dimensions.  The frame is really nice, too, although it is new.

I have some tree paintings too, and also a very nice portrait!  I have a flower painting that was hanging in my living room and also one painting that I kept from 2015 Wilton Show!  

I have a total of 6 different bird paintings.  Speaking of birds, here's some more!

The last two paintings were actually two of my first paintings that I started for this show, especially, the girl on the right.  The medium on the flowers is pastel.  The finish on the frame is encaustic and has a waxed hand-rubbled feel to it.  I really like it hanging with the girl because the color tones are very similar.

Trick or Treat 

This is a good example of a painting that I decided to change.  I mean, I really changed this one.  Everything about it is new...almost.  I am not a huge halloween fan, but it is fun for children and some adults, too, that know how to have a good time.  I didn't want this to be too spooky.  I think I pulled that part off...it's just sweet.

Where's Batman? Look**at pumpkin boy. 

I love it when my paintings ask questions.  This is one of those pieces.  I don't know if I should call it, Trick or Treat or Where's Batman?  I guess I will let you decide.

I like the spots of light illuminating this painting.  There's also an eerie night feel to it, which is what I was striving for. 

I sort of like it in this frame because it ties into my silhouettes, which I am thinking of taking along to Wilton, Ct.  It is going to be FUN. 

Also, I decided to change the subject matter of this because, overtime as I looked at it, I kept thinking EGGS.  This painting has to be about the eggs.  I grew up in a neighborhood with about 25 kids.  The boys down the block always threw eggs at us on halloween.  I know you don't approve. They did get in trouble! haha.   Today, I laugh, yesterday I cried (on the inside.) LOL

There's so much detail in this piece, from the dentals to the tree branches.  LOOK at the bricks.  There's a good bit of work in this one! 

Sometimes, you just have to put it on the floor and stand back...NOW you have the feel of it.  Don't forget to look for batman! 

I hope that your October and November and December are so very special.

My Happy Place 

A portrait of a 19th century Schooner

Inspired by my antique Diorama  

Water that is full of color and light 

Anyone who knows me knows that I love the water.  It makes me happy EVERY TIME.  I love to paint water and sky and boats--anything nautical!! Ahoy!

The Antique Diorama 

About 5 years ago, I purchased this very cool Diorama.  It was actually made by an elderly gentleman from the Baltimore, MD area back in the late 19th century, early 20th.  I loved it.  Everyday, I look at this and think, "Wouldn't that be a smart looking ship painting!"  So here we are, fast forward five years, and it is finished.  Hey, it could've taken 10 years.

On my beautiful mantle and look at that Spicher Vintage Vinyl on the floor! 

The schooner is painted smaller than the frame could accept but I actually liked it the way it was and decided to frame it in a way that accented the beautiful sky and fluffy clouds.  The frame compliments the period in that it is grained.  The finish on the frame is smooth and the gold liner is still intact.  I love it.  

Before the American Flag 

I was going to leave it without the American flag (pictured above)  but like the other nautical pieces that I have painted, I just couldn't stand to not identify what country this came from.  The flag tells the viewer the origin and that is important.

The sky and the water were brightened up some in this picture 

It's hard to know when to stop and so like many of my pieces, I will wait to actually frame it and place it behind glass.  I am forever changing 'finished' stuff.  The number of paintings I paid to have put together only to later tear apart is more than I care to share.

Large Black Swan Painting by Pennsylvania Artist Kolene Spicher

Wait for me 

Wait for me is a painting about a family going for a ride on a black swan!  Total Whimsey! 

Having had 5 sisters, it wasn't uncommon on a Sunday morning or Friday night to hear, "Wait for me!" 

"I want to come, too!" 

That is what this is about.  I love the big fluffy clouds and bright white Ticket House! 

ME

I decided to paint ME in the picture...again.  It is becoming a new trend!  Maybe not. 

Mom started out as 'sister', but then I  quickly decided she looked more like 'mother'.  I think the little girl, named Sister, looks quite patriotic in her blue dress with red shoes and American flag.  Lots of flags always make me feel free and happy. 

Wait for me! 

You can never have too many ships, I think.  I might even add to this painting after a bit.  I am working on it for Wilton.

The frame you see pictured is an 1850s LEMON GOLD frame, New England. 

Here she is!  She's full of whimsy and fun.  If you live in New England around Wilton,  Connecticut, I am working on this piece and others for a show that is held at the Wilton Historical Society on Friday evening...   This is a fund raiser (the opening night) so the ticket price is a bit more than usual. However, you can come on Saturday and Sunday and it's much less.  Read about it here!

Pennsylvania Artist Kolene Spicher Miniature Nautical Oval in Silver-leafed Handmade Frame

The Whalers 

This is a painting that I am going to donate.  I painted it specifically for the Wilton Historical Society fundraiser that will be held on Friday evening at the historical society in Wilton, CT.  

This is a great event with food and lots of artists!  What more could you ask for?  You 

can have a fun night out and contribute toward the preservation of the Historical Society.  All funds from the auction help this worthy cause continue to exist! I think it's fun thing to do on

a Friday night in New England!

I had a little bit of trouble with the lighting on this piece and blurriness.  Sorry.  

The frame is handmade in Italy and silver-leafed with beautiful paper on the back.  The frame is very beautiful.

2017 Christmas Card! 

I have been very actively painting now for the upcoming Wilton, CT show at the Wilton Historical Society November 3-5, 2017.  This is a quick view of my snow piece for this show.  See link below. 

 

I choose a beautiful wide piece of reclaimed wood from a barn in Lancaster County to repurpose into a very nice one-of-a-kind frame.  The elderly gentleman was Amish and took great pride in his workmanship, even signing the frame - smile. 

Loving the little snowman in the back left side.  I love the idea of skating with a campfire and carolers.  It would seem to me that this painting has all the holidays in mind.  

I have the little Christmas Tree on the sled,  and the snowfall is making me think  of the Thanksgiving holiday.  I love a white Thanksgiving. 

And not to be overlooked, the little guy on the sled carrying a holiday pumpkin.  

I have never done this previously, but I decided to identify myself in this painting.  I am the girl in the purple dress up and center! 

I double signed this piece, do you see it!  It was so my Christmas Card had a signature.  I later removed this second signature. 

Finally, here's the piece in its entirety.  I really love the richness of this colors of this.  At this time, this will be my  only snow scene available.  I seem to be having some obstacles getting ready for this show.  All pieces are one of a kind and not mass made in any fashion! MADE IN USA!!! 

Love these striped socks...uhh.

Things Mermaids Do on the Beach 

All in old Currier and Ives Frames 

I had a mess of old Currier Ives Frames and thought what can I do with these nice old frames? 

I thought to myself MERMAID SCENES! 

Each of these are about things

that one would do on the beach.  Wouldn't 

this be a fun series for your new beach

house? 

Watching

Strolling 

Each of these were drawn out in pencil.  They 

each contains similar colors and expressions.  

I love the fishing one.  I have never caught a fish on the beach.  This is not because I haven't tried, by the way! Ha. 

Fishing 

I really love the mermaid holding the flowers, too. 

Eating Watermelon on the beach is always fun! 

What do you like to eat on the beach?  Whatever it is, hold it close to your person, as the birds are always watching! 

Shelling 

My favorite thing to do on the beach is walking and looking for shells.  I love to use them in artwork and many times the shells in my art were found on the beach!  I seldom buy them. 

Swimming 

Some of my favorite colors...

I love to swim on the beach, too.  Flying kites is always fun, too.  What is your favorite activity on the beach, maybe it is sunbathing!
