Rufus Porter Mural in Connecticut by Pennsylvania artist Kolene Spicher

A Restful Place

This was a very fun project.  The house was magnificent where I painted this mural.

The first step was to create the finish.  When I say finish, I am talking about the surface and not the end product.  You can see the crackles and dabbling that occurred in the surface.  These marks were deliberate.

Rufus Porter was known for his stylized trees.  I don't know if his were as crazy as mine, but hey.  I think this tree could exist.

The flower pot is pretty stylized, as well.  I wanted to create a very primitive atmosphere but I wanted to update it to our current century.  I did this with colors that pop.

The water was magical.

Look at that tree!  And those boats! LOOK* at that tiger maple desk.  Everything was gorgeous.

Speaking of gorgeous...

I love to paint garden gates.  Do you see the fence along the water?  I think it, too, is magical.

The wall adjoining the mural was painted a complementary color.  The warm tones in her furnishings really made this jump off the wall.  You really can get a great look without painting all four walls.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.  CURRENTLY, I am painting pottery to match this look!  I will be taking it and artwork, that is one of a kind and framed, to the #wiltonhistoricalsociety show that takes place the first weekend in November 2018.

Here's a glimpse!

Enjoy!

Large Black Swan Painting by Pennsylvania Artist Kolene Spicher

Wait for me

Wait for me is a painting about a family going for a ride on a black swan!  Total Whimsey!

Having had 5 sisters, it wasn't uncommon on a Sunday morning or Friday night to hear, "Wait for me!"
"I want to come, too!"

That is what this is about.  I love the big fluffy clouds and bright white Ticket House!

ME

I decided to paint ME in the picture...again.  It is becoming a new trend!  Maybe not.

Mom started out as 'sister', but then I  quickly decided she looked more like 'mother'.  I think the little girl, named Sister, looks quite patriotic in her blue dress with red shoes and American flag.  Lots of flags always make me feel free and happy.

Wait for me!

You can never have too many ships, I think.  I might even add to this painting after a bit.  I am working on it for Wilton.

The frame you see pictured is an 1850s LEMON GOLD frame, New England.

Here she is!  She's full of whimsy and fun.  If you live in New England around Wilton,  Connecticut, I am working on this piece and others for a show that is held at the Wilton Historical Society on Friday evening...   This is a fund raiser (the opening night) so the ticket price is a bit more than usual. However, you can come on Saturday and Sunday and it's much less.  Read about it here!

I like this one because it has the little bird's nest in the branch.  I love the naked tree!  NO LEAVES!
Just copy and paste the link below each painting to see them on ETSY.  This puts me in mind of baby shower.

I also have another oval that I think is precious, too.   I think WEDDING for this one!

I like this one because it is actually taken from a tree in my back yard.  I live over a valley and there are mountains surrounding me with lots and lots of birds.

I love hanging art in unconventional ways.  In this picture, I have the painting hanging over the knobs of my most recent project where I painted a cabinet with blue paint to look like that old antique blue chippy paint.

I live in a family that HUNTS.  We enjoy living off the land.  I think this would be a nice painting for a man in a masculine setting.  Maybe a father's day gift.

I really love this one.  Again this is a tree from near my home.  I just love the shape of a tree.  I love the leaves but love the tree more without them.  It is just pure art.  The knots, the crooked branches, the imperfections...they make the tree unique and perfect.  The sky gives this a peaceful feel.  LOVE.

Well, that is it!  I hope you take the time to go to my store and take a look at what I am offering.  If you buy more than one, I can offer a better discount.

Enjoy!

Springtime

SPRINGTIME COMES TO THE WOODS

Springtime comes to the woods
Good day to you!  Thanks for visiting my blog site.  Today, I wish to talk about a little painting I did a good while ago.  I am happy to say I found 10 very nice sized paintings in a crate in our warehouse.  This one dates to probably 1995 ~ maybe.  How did it end up in a crate, you might be thinking?

Well, many of you that know me realize that I have had a very long battle with Ovarian Cancer.  I have been in and out of the hospital a lot of the last 23 years.  Each time I go 'in' everything sort of comes to a screeching halt in my studio.  Things get put away and I rest.  I rest for a long time.  Each time I have been sick, it has been for the same thing, Cancer.  I hate it cancer and what it does to people's lives but God promises to be with us, and I have with God's help beat it every time.  I am so thankful, too.

As I said in an earlier post, we have been cleaning house.  Along with dozens of packs of cards found, there were also some early paintings of mine.  This one is one of them.  I am going to list it on my KOLENESPICHER Etsy acct. if you wish to purchase it.  People that have bought paintings with this hand grain frame may be interested.  I can't get these frames any longer very easily.

The title is on the right (sorry about the shadow) "Springtime comes to the woods"

What is really sweet about this painting is that it is about NEW BEGINNINGS.   Just like spring is in the beginning of life each year and signifies life,  Nature sheds its garment of death and in turn sprouts new life.  The little house that is attached to the log cabin has a newborn baby in the window with a caption written in the grass Baby in the Picture Window!

How about the little Peeps!!
The man carrying the water has a caption that reads Bringing water to Bathe my Babies!
Celebrating the new Baby
The whole painting is really about the new baby but it is also about New Beginnings.  I know because that was what I was thinking about and hoping for when I painted it!!

This frame was hand-grained
I
have sold many, many landscape paintings with this very frame on them.  The warm glows of the 'faux' wood just blend and compliment my work.  I was really thrilled to find this!!  I should get cards made out of it.  They wouldn't be like the other cards because I would need to do very limited quantities.  Wouldn't this be a darling baby thank you card??

Resting before the rain
This cow is doing what we all like to do…REST.  Let's all rest a  just little today!

Don't forget to check out my ETSY store.  I am listed under KOLENESPICHER.  I will be listing this painting!  Check it out! For a week, I am offering 10 percent off for orders over $100.

Finally, here's a closeup very large!

Enjoy the beautiful Springtime in the Northeast (if you are here!)  It is so wonderful outside today!
