I am working on a painting at the moment for a gentlemen who wants the Smeaton Tower painted 

from Plymouth, UK.  As I drew the lighthouse (and I will blog about it later), I was thinking this would be cute on a pot.  

I decided to put some of my Polkadots on this piece.  I have them on the opposite side of the lighthouse painting.  

This is slightly blurry, sorry! 

This little guy needs fired yet.  It is still in its basest form, almost! 

This also needs fired.  The colors will change.  Unfortunately, a lot of times as you fire, some of the colors are less vibrant.  What you paint is not always what you get, almost never, actually, LOL. 

The shape is slightly different from the other lamp bases, but I think it will go well with the one that I still have (in living room).  I will use it till it sells, smile. 

I loved the big round light that I sold at wilton.  Here is a peak!

This has a great gold lined shade, compliments of Restoration Hardware.  I love their shades, actually. 

This vase is hand formed from a slab.  The top is sort of irregular and this was done on purpose.  See how the rose sort of falls in that V.  

This vase in the front is porcelain.  The vase in the back right, which happens to be of the Bay (any bay you'd like), is earthenware.  I am really into the uneven top edge, don't know why, smile. 

These sort of speak for themselves.  But, you can see, there is a lot of artwork on these pieces.  They are all one of a kind.  

I got some mugs back recently, too, unfortunately they had some issues.  However, I know what I did wrong.  

Here are some pictures.  I have 8 more mugs ready to paint with similar imagery.  

This one with the green sails I LOVE.  The surface has some issues, though, so I will keep this one and make more that are similar because the imagery is good and attractive.

I love  making mugs.  They sell easily and they make people smile, that is a good thing.  People that have followed my artwork over the years know that I love primitive art.  I found this little girl so sweet.  This mug turned out, too! 

That's about it for now.  I will have some more to blog about next week because I have already started to paint my Christmas orders.  I have a good bit to fill so I will be talking away in the near future.

I have been learning how to do ceramics in my free time, lol.  I have no free time.  My days are always planned with good things.  Each day I try to do something the VERY BEST THAT I CAN.  It doesn't have to be perfect, but it needs to be my best.  

Ceramics have been a type of healing for me.  It is too deep to explain and I'd bore you.  So lets look at some pictures.  

This is not really what I thought this would look like.  The green burned brown and sort of looks like my grass in the summer after 6 weeks of no rain.  I didn't use enough paint...sigh.  The black lines are inconsistent.  I did not realize that when they say three coats, they really mean three.  Who would have thought.  So make a note, next mug, three coats of color.  Oh and don't use that green.  Or that blue...What, you don't know what blue you used, do you?  Know your colors.  Make a note.  So you are starting to see, this isn't an easy process.  But I love this mug and I think what makes it endearing are the imperfections that this new potter is learning to overcome.  I like the hand made look, but there needs to be a line that I don't cross.  I don't know the line. :( 

I like the way the leaf turned out and also the drippy blue.  The handle on the left says, "The Birds!"  The other side says, "Find their home!" Finally, barely there, is the writing By the Sea in the muddy grass. 

Let's talk about the lady in the picture.  She's sort of bumpy...literally and in all the wrong places, but you know what?  I love her.  I love this mug, and imperfect as it is, I have found that it is very fun to drink out of.  

I'd say that this was me, but it isn't.  But I do love it and want to keep it! 

See the handle?  This says, "Find their Home."  This is referring to birds.  Nevermind that my finger doesn't even fit in that hole.  LOL. 

You can't see it in the picture, but there is a bump to the right of this poor woman's breast.  I don't mind it, but I am pointing it out because it's there, and when you drink out of it, you are reminded that a woman made this mug.  LOL.

Oh how I love that blue inside the cup and also on the water.  If only I had put more brush strokes.  

This might actually be my favorite part.  This sweet Robin truly found a home by the sea and in this cup.  I am going to do a painting around this mug.  I am working on another cup that has this theme painted on it to go with the  new painting.  Whoever gets the painting, gets the mug!  I will plan on taking this stuff to #wiltonhistoricalsociety show that takes place in November.  

I am going to make a hand built stand for this. 

Finally, let's talk about the platter.  I love so much of it.  I don't love the shine.  I am going to make another one out of Porcelain.  Yesterday, I made two hand-built porcelain mugs.  I worked on them some this morning and I love how they are getting.  One of them will be  for my Birds find their Home by the Sea mug.  

Now you know why I am going "Mugsy." #Mugsy is about pottery (for me).  It's about all the steps and lessons and about loving what you are, whatever that might be.  :)

New Pottery Pieces, painting sheep, trees, and a mermaid

Learning another trade 

I have been interested in learning pottery for a very long time.  I think this is a natural segway for me from what I am already doing daily.  I will need to develop 

my skills, but I am on my way!  

I must have been spending too much time with my dogs, because this poor sheep sort of looks like one, lol.  

These are mugs that were hand built and not made 

on a wheel.  

The bottoms were carved and so was the daisy on the handle.  The trees were carved into the clay.  

I made four Black Sheep mugs!  This one is my favorite, I think. (above)

While this isn't the clearest or highest quality photo, you get the idea.  I love the trees and grass, etc.  The black sheep also has some carving highlights.  

The handle on this sort of rests under your pointer finger.  

Finally, I will post a picture of the beginning stages of a mermaid platter!  This piece is about 10" high and 8" wide.  It is slightly concave.   I think I will frame it somehow, maybe, whenever it is finished.  I will post more detailed pictures after these pieces make it thru the fire.  

This mermaid is still fresh wet clay! It will be painted to look like all of my other mermaids.

Let's Celebrate - a snow scene by Pennsylvania Artist Kolene Spicher

Let's Celebrate 

Over the River and Thru the woods 

I know its winter outside, but would someone please tell the weatherman to act right.  It's like 70 and its February.  I went ahead and painted a winter scene (I started it a few weeks ago), but

it's just plain balmy out.  It doesn't feel right. 

This was an order.

Look at that man warming his hands, I hope he doesn't fall into the fire! 

The frame is so very cool.  It came from the Amish.  Here this 80 year old man named Rufus seems to enjoy cutting barns down and recycling the wood.  He even signs some of his frames.  This frame came with a back that had a name written in ballpoint ink, maybe it's the barn this wood came from. 

Is this Grandma? 

I am trying to keep things light, happy, and bright.  This is a winter scene that is about celebrating.  Maybe I feel like being happy because I had some surgery in December and it went well and is all behind me.  I started this right after coming home from the hospital.  What fun. not. but I am thankful.

I don't know if that is grandma, but that is ME down there holding the pumpkin. 

This painting is sort of Grandma Moses like.  There's that word again...grandma. As you can see, I am into polka dots at the moment.  

This gives you an idea of the scale.  Do you like that Cabinet?  That was my dear sweet mother's!

My Heart's Always Home 

Day Dawns Beyond the Atlantic Sea! 

Sea Shells are gently applied  beneath glass.

Imagine this, you own the red house in the above picture!  Each morning you watch the tall ships go out somewhere unbeknown to you, what a sight!   Of course my artwork would be hanging in your house along the sea, too.  Stop and think about that!

THE PRIDE OF BALTIMORE 

I really enjoy creating reproductions that blend well with good antiques.  Today I present  Day Dawns Beyond the Atlantic. 

The Shells were collected by myself and found mostly along the Atlantic in New Jersey Specifically.  Finding the shells are 1/2 of the fun.  

I haven't decided if the frame needs any work, but I happen to think that it might be good just as it is! It will need modified, however, to receive the painting with the shells because the shells add a surface that is not entirely flat. The glass would be in the way.  

I spend some time over the summer at the Chesapeake bay and take a lot of photos.  I think this painting sort of reminds me of the bay area.

I love hanging art in unconventional ways.  In this picture, I have the painting hanging over the knobs of my most recent project where I painted a cabinet with blue paint to look like that old antique blue chippy paint.

I live in a family that HUNTS.  We enjoy living off the land.  I think this would be a nice painting for a man in a masculine setting.  Maybe a father's day gift.

I really love this one.  Again this is a tree from near my home.  I just love the shape of a tree.  I love the leaves but love the tree more without them.  It is just pure art.  The knots, the crooked branches, the imperfections...they make the tree unique and perfect.  The sky gives this a peaceful feel.  LOVE.
