Here is the set of mermaids that I painted recently.  I had blogged about them a bit earlier; 

however, I had not included pictures of the paintings with frames.  Here they are! 

Strolling 

When I go to the beach, I always take a stroll on the boardwalk.  I love watching the people, swimmers, and birds. 

Shelling 

When my boys were young, we always made sandcastles and took early morning walks on the beach looking for shells.  

Fishing 

Each summer we went to the beach, one of my stops always included talking to the fisherman along the shoreline.  Truthfully, I never seen these guys actually catch anything.  I guess I just didn't time it correctly.  It was always great fun watching, though. 

Swimming

This one cracks me up!  Look at her with that cellphone!  Tell me that doesn't go on all the time on the beach, my instagram is full of such beach activity.  The selfie is here to stay.

Eating 

Then there is the proverbial eating that goes on.  It's a real problem today on our boardwalks and beaches, why?  Birds.  There's actually a law now in New Jersey, you cannot feed the birds!  They swoop down and dive bomb the ones with food in their hands.  It can be quite alarming. 

Watching 

This is probably my greatest pastime that I enjoy on the beach, people watching.  Bird watching, too, is quite fun; except, if they are busy dive bombing, then it is an out for me! Look at the water  I am loving that blue. 

Finally, here's an order that I just finished for a customer on the other side of the USA.  I love this mermaid. 

 I love the feathered edge and the glass is floating between the two pieces of moulding creating a cavity between the glass and the paper painting!

Things Mermaids Do on the Beach 

All in old Currier and Ives Frames 

I had a mess of old Currier Ives Frames and thought what can I do with these nice old frames? 

I thought to myself MERMAID SCENES! 

Each of these are about things

that one would do on the beach.  Wouldn't 

this be a fun series for your new beach

house? 

Watching

Strolling 

Each of these were drawn out in pencil.  They 

each contains similar colors and expressions.  

I love the fishing one.  I have never caught a fish on the beach.  This is not because I haven't tried, by the way! Ha. 

Fishing 

I really love the mermaid holding the flowers, too. 

Eating Watermelon on the beach is always fun! 

What do you like to eat on the beach?  Whatever it is, hold it close to your person, as the birds are always watching! 

Shelling 

My favorite thing to do on the beach is walking and looking for shells.  I love to use them in artwork and many times the shells in my art were found on the beach!  I seldom buy them. 

Swimming

I love to swim on the beach, too.  Flying kites is always fun, too.  What is your favorite activity on the beach, maybe it is sunbathing!

His Finest Catch 

And maybe his greatest hour.

A whale of a fish! 

I love to tell a story.  True or false, it's just fun.  Today, I present my little original painting, His Finest Catch.  The size overall is 6.75"x 13.5" and I am selling it on ETSY for $525, plus shipping.  

Here are some additional pictures of this fine little painting.  By the way, I present these pictures from beginning to end and also show it hanging in various places throughout my studio so you can get the feel for size and color.  This painting was carefully antiqued at the end so as to not rob the painting of the richness of its color. 

I started out with a drawing.  

I don't know how to explain it but I go from front to back.  I start at the base (many times) of the painting and sort of work my way into the distance.  

As many small paintings usually will display well on a shelf or in a cabinet, this one is no different.  I love it displayed with my items from the sea and other nautical things.  

I wouldn't say the frame is anything really unique.  It is just a simple gold frame with great old glass which I didn't photograph because it keeps a constant glare on the painting and makes it difficult to capture the details.  

Finally, here it is with some of my other paintings so that you can see that it will blend well with my other work if you are deciding to add this to your collection.

Anchors - Bedminster Artshow, Bedminster, PA Sept. 20-21, 2014

Anchors Aweigh! 

Love this Anchor

Anchors are really in style right now.  This is a good thing because I plan to keep them if they don't sell.  That's right.  I love them.

I painted 4 of these to all hang together and they will be part of my Spicher and Co., High Point, NC show coming up as well as my Bedminster art show that is this next weekend (See previous posts).  I have the originals framed in these amazing antique frames.

I wish that you could see the backgrounds on these.  I worked FOREVER ON THEM.  This is a mostly true statement.  I really took my time with them.  I love the old gold frames.  I know they aren't simple, but the frames needed something fancy and shiny.  :)  Love them! 

This frame reminds me of rope. 

This frame reminds me of a port hole. 

FISHING

HOOKS ARE SORT OF LIKE ANCHORS, SO I PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER ON ONE POST! 

I HAD A BUNCH OF ADIRONDACK STYLE FRAMES.  This seemed like a good solution for these frames.  I don't even have this style house and want to keep them.  You know if I blog about them again that I got my wish… (I wish that I would sell them).

Gold liner is in perfect condition 

This is not a Criss-Cross frame but looks very adirondack!
