The Visiting Whale

If Whales could speak, they would tell you how much they love watching and interacting with man.  Each day someone, somewhere goes out in his or her boat, and watches for that proverbial whale's tail flipping across the water.   I love a good whale watch and am delighted to catch even a partial site of one.  

I had a request for a painting with a whale, some mermaids, and a few skaters.  While I have painted this combination before, each time it turns out a little differently from the last.  

I decided to paint this with a feathered edge, it looks wonderfully vintage and the surface has some wrinkles and cracks.  

I love the guy with the striped shirt!  He's fun and carefree and has really big feet, lol. 

Then there's the fun red house, hey, you have to have that house in there, every time.  It makes my painting look 'lived' in!  

There she is!  In her entirety, you get the feeling of a cold night and you think HOLIDAYS.

2017 Christmas Card! 

I have been very actively painting now for the upcoming Wilton, CT show at the Wilton Historical Society November 3-5, 2017.  This is a quick view of my snow piece for this show.  See link below. 

 

I choose a beautiful wide piece of reclaimed wood from a barn in Lancaster County to repurpose into a very nice one-of-a-kind frame.  The elderly gentleman was Amish and took great pride in his workmanship, even signing the frame - smile. 

Loving the little snowman in the back left side.  I love the idea of skating with a campfire and carolers.  It would seem to me that this painting has all the holidays in mind.  

I have the little Christmas Tree on the sled,  and the snowfall is making me think  of the Thanksgiving holiday.  I love a white Thanksgiving. 

And not to be overlooked, the little guy on the sled carrying a holiday pumpkin.  

I have never done this previously, but I decided to identify myself in this painting.  I am the girl in the purple dress up and center! 

I double signed this piece, do you see it!  It was so my Christmas Card had a signature.  I later removed this second signature. 

Finally, here's the piece in its entirety.  I really love the richness of this colors of this.  At this time, this will be my  only snow scene available.  I seem to be having some obstacles getting ready for this show.  All pieces are one of a kind and not mass made in any fashion! MADE IN USA!!! 

Love these striped socks...uhh.

Holiday Mermaid "Facebook Early American Folk Arts and Trades Marketplace" Painting

Snow, skating, and wintertime Nautical in the background 

Boy that title is a mouthful!  I know it's hard to believe, but we are heading into the holidays.  I want to so badly call her Christmas Day Mermaid but am concerned that people will hesitate to purchase a mermaid that you can only hang a few months out of the year.   The frame on this is fabulous and once the skaters and sailors and water are in place, it will look very festive and inviting.

Beautiful early 1900s frame. 

Here's a closeup of the fabulous frame.  It is quite large and the glass is still in tact and very old and wonderful and wavy! 

The mermaid will fill the opening, but there is still plenty of space for wintertime on 

either side of her.

As I type, I have some friends today that are keeping me from achieving much of anything! I am dog sitting, smile.

Mermaid Winter Scene

The Presents 

It is better to Give than to Receive

In The spirit of giving… 

I always have a great time painting these winter scenes.  In many ways, winter is my favorite time of the year.  I just love Christmas.  

Things that stand out to me are as follows!

Love the bright colors! 

These little figures are not very big, and I painted as much detail in as was possible for me.  I like the idea of being 'together' with people that I love.  I love horses and riding in a sleigh.  To me this says "HOLIDAY" and Christmas!! 

The idea is that they are traveling to see a MERMAID SHOW! Fun. 

Let's not forget those in need.  For so many of us, Christmas may not be a time where gifts and money abound.  I really liked the message of giving to those in need.  Check out the red bucket's message.  

To be candid, I took that "Alms for the Poor" message from Robin Hood.  Ha.  My boys LOVE that story. 

I am working on this and a LOT of other paintings for my upcoming show in Doylestown, PA.  It is called the Bedminster Show and is held at Delaware Valley College.  Here's the information:
