The Dogs of Facebook 

Dachshunds, Maltese, Boxer, 

and the French Bulldog

I am having too much fun with this.  I hate to tell you this if you are waiting for folk art, but this post is all about dogs.  They keep pouring into my Facebook page, and so I continue to paint them.  

As I said, they will be available thru Spicher and Company mid April, 2017.  

If you are really sharp, you will notice that I did some changes to some of these posts above.  

Some changes ~ My Bernise Mountain dog, lower right corner, did not have a collar on.  I added this bright red collar and I happen to thing he's precious.  His name is Gipper and he is from Lancaster.  

My girlfriend really wanted a heart added to her Greyhound.  You will see Wobbie or Wubbie or whatever front and left of center.

I am not certain what type of dog this little white pup might be.   My girlfriend who know a lot said that she thinks it is a Maltese.  

One dog that is really precious and I love is the French Bulldog.  Again, Facebook

I happen to think that this dog turned out really well.  I just like him, and I am in love with black and white!  So there you have it, in love.  

You can see the likeness on this one.  Of course I added the bell.  

According to my same friend, the boxer and the French Bulldog (as well as the Boston Terrier) are all descendants from a bull dog type dog called Bullenbeisser from Germany.  She says it was a fiercely strong dog with a jaw that would hold wild boars and bulls by the nose while the huntsman shot them.  This required extreme tenacity, fearlessness, and super strong jaw muscles.  Of course, now they are all tamed down to be less aggressive (hopefully), except for some Pit Bulls.  Did I tell you that she loves dogs?

I love how these dogs look with my trophy!  HAHA, I am all about the decorating, too.

There will be more dogs coming.  I will probably wait till there are four additional ones before I post another time about dogs.

Wilton, Connecticut Show

My Paintings 

I had a fabulous time at the Wilton, CT show.  It was so much fun, and I have already committed to next year, Lord Willing!!!  

These photographed a little dark, but they turned out beautifully

This one might have been my favorite.  Mark was sad to see it sell :)  

I really loved this one.  They were painted on antique books and the bottom one is 3-D.  The tail and the water sort of project forward.  I love, love, love this one :)

These are both gone. 

The attendance was really steady.  Each day had a good bit of traffic.  The 'Society' is already talking about what they will do differently next year to improve the show.  If you think you might like to go to 2016 show, it will be the same weekend (first weekend in November).  I can send you info if you message me your address.  You might get a Christmas card, too!

Mermaids are always fun to paint and seem to bring the buyers joy.  Folks, that is what it's all about for me.  This one was painted on an antique canvas, too!  It has a real vintage look and feel.  

I am keeping this one for a while.

Creating a Portrait - Part 1 - For the GARDEN CLUB OF VIRGINIA HISTORIC GARDEN WEEK garden tour in Gloucester, VA **Updated with additional photographs 3/29/15

I painted a portrait reproduction similar to the one below!

Kolene Spicher Portrait, Ship scene, and Landscape that is being featured in a prominent Virginia home for Historic Garden Club Tour 

A few years ago, I painted a piece after the likeness of this painting.  It was purchased by man from Virginia.  Today, my version (Portrait B)  proudly hangs in his home in the dining room.  Today, I am starting another 'Blunt' style painting which I intend to sell later but for now turn into a business card.  I thought it would be fun for you to follow the process.

This is my version (below).  The feel of the two are similiar but the painting technique is different, as should be the case of any painter.  I am starting a third "Blunt Style" today. **See Creating a Portrait - Part 2 - For the Garden Club of Virginia...

Things that stand out to me about this painting are as follows (I list them in importance to the overall success of the painting, as I see it). 

Face- this little boy's face is very sweet.  Although, he looks serious it's only because his dress was tight, Ha.  

Proportions - the proportions of this painting are good and well executed.  Often times, the head may be overly large or small.  I don't feel this is as desirable.  I Like the proportions to be correct. 

Splash of color - I love the orange.  I think a dark painting always needs something bright.  I intend to include something bright. 

Full body - While head shots can be sweet, I truly believe that the full body shot is more desirable.  I include as much of the body as the frame will permit.

Color-The colors are rich and dark.  To change it up a bit,   I intend to brighten the next painting just a little bit.  However, it will still need to be executed using dark colors or it won't look "Blunt" style.

Here are a few interior shots with my paintings hanging on the wall.  This house is FABULOUS.  I cannot express with a few pictures the extent of the collections that are within the walls of this Virginia Colonial. 

The "Blunt" Style portrait is behind the left potted tree.  The Ship scenes are Kolene Spicher, too. 

I love the use of props and staging that are present in each of the rooms in this house.  The owners should run a magazine!!

~Today, I am going to start working on the background for my 2nd 'Blunt' style painting!  I will select a frame for this piece, too.  I may make a frame, too.  I am not certain, yet!  

A LITTLE ABOUT THE GARDEN TOUR 

THIS IS THE HOME THAT I WILL HAVE MY ARTWORK FEATURED.  IN THE TOUR BOOK, IT IS TITLED "Nesting". 

The tour takes place Saturday, April 25, 2015.  I need the business cards for this event!    The homes that are featured spread across the commonwealth of Virgina.  Each  section of the state will hold tours  on a different day starting Saturday, April 18 and finishing  up on April 25, 2015.
