Flocking Birds - Painting No. 3

Vision 

The Linear flight formations of migratory birds  are called ECHELONS. 

A famous philosopher once said that Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.  I really liked this, and for me it rings true.  

Vision inspires me on a daily basis.  It keeps me going; vision helps me believe that I have hope, that things can improve, that I am well… This is a very important subject to me.  Many people reading this know that I have struggled with ovarian cancer much of my adult life.  

Did you know that your vision defines who you become?

Vision is VITAL 

Recently,  it occurred to me that MY vision for MY future is what enables me to have joy in MY today.  I must believe that I am well, even when my body tries to say otherwise.  It is the art of seeing what is invisible.  This is truly the essence of Faith.   

A little blue, a little black, a little green…and WALA! they all go well together! 

One must believe that behind the darkness, there is a dawn.  Not only does this dawn create light, but it defines the darkness creating forms of beauty.  A silhouette begins to  form.  In a nutshell, this  is what my Flocking Birds series is about.

I am one of those people that happen to believe that the birds hold wisdom, little truths that are lost to those who do not take the time to watch them.   At night, you cannot see the birds, but  You still believe that they are there because you may hear them.  At the break of dawn, they start to sing.  The light hits them and something beautiful unfolds.

Like the other two paintings, Vision has little sentences written in the grass and on the branches and in the sky.  Each sentence holds a truth about VISION.

After i painted in the houses, I moved to the sleigh

Everyone likes a good parade!  This painting will pull you into the world of make-believe.  You can't help but wonder where the people came from, did they come from one of the houses?  I couldn't help but put the ladies in the back seat of the sleigh.  When we go out with another couple, I always find myself in the back seat with a good friend.  I prefer it.  We can talk and laugh and have the same things in common.  

I love the little girls dressed in blue and pink.  There's a good dad for you, too, taking them to the parade! 

I love the little sled beside the right tree.  

The medium on this piece is acrylic on my special hand-made canvas.  The crackles that are created by my 'process' create a unique one of a kind look.  

I  like this little tree in the forefront.  Why?  Well, it suggests that they care enough to plant trees.  If a tree passes, it is transformed (hopefully) into something useful.  It will need replaced.  To me it speaks of new beginnings.

I think the mermaids are a good addition.  Truthfully, I started off with just 'people' but then thought, NO, I need some fish.  How about the two best friends right center? 

Love the steeple 

All good landscapes need a church and a steeple.  Imagine the bells ringing.  I always though that Paintings are  like adult storybooks.  Think about it! 

This is a beautiful example of an antique victorian frame.  I really love the details on this frame.  It is in sturdy good condition, too, and comes complete with a wonderful piece of wavy glass!  I think I will need to mat this, as it is a tad small (the painting).  White or black mat?

Show sales!

A collection of paintings that sold from Doylestown, PA show 

This is going to be a long post!  I had so much fun this last weekend presenting my creations that I have been tediously working on over the spring and into and through the summer!  I will start with the miniatures!

These are my imported handmade gold and silver leafed Italian frames.  They are very well made and were very well received at the show 

I really took my time painting these little guys.  I was thrilled to see that they sold quite quickly and found them to be a good introduction piece to individuals that have never purchased from me before!  Hopefully, it is the beginning of a wonderful relationship!  HA.

This one was very popular and could have sold several times if I had duplicates (which I did not).  I did take an additional order on it, though! 

Another well received miniature! 

Another category that I happened to do well in was the mermaid department.  People like fish.  I always have so much fun painting them, too.  I never know quite what direction that they will go…and then WALA! It sort of hits me and I run with a theme.   I present these in the order in which they sold.

I sold this right before the show (sorry) but I happened to love the person that
bought it and wanted to see her get it.  She has been patiently waiting for a redhead that she loved for a long time. 

This was a special request mermaid (the next one below).  The customer that bought her has been buying from me for a very long time.  She is my friend.  Her daughter actually picked out the frame that her mother would want.  I thought this was neat.

Some of you will remember the next one because I actually already blogged about her.  She was part of my tattoo artwork.  She's fun and is one of those paintings that I have things written in the water.  This makes it something that you really want to look at…What does that say?? 

Can you see what's written in the water? The little painting on the right gives you an idea of the scale of this piece. 

This last mermaid was a first for me.  It is what I like to call 3-D.  I actually cut her out and mounted her on the background that I painted.  I really liked it and sold 2.  The second one will be slightly larger than this piece.  The cutout really gives it a modern feel.

My tattoo artwork was really well received, too.  Some of these pictures are a little on the dark side (and I apologize for that in advance).  I didn't take the best pictures because it was very busy and I was working the show by myself (with the help of a few wonderful customers [friends]).

This is the second one of this style that I have painted.
I usually do not do the same painting twice but
it was so well received that I needed to.   

I apologize for this one.  It really is dark and happened to be one of my favorite.  I don't know what I 

was thinking…I loved the frame on this, too. 

The last photo that I want to share is my Retrieved Wallpaper technique that I painted on canvas.  I shadow mounted it, which made it have a sort of modern flair.

trees and landscapes. 

I am beginning to paint again for another show.  This one is in New England - Wilton, Connecticut.  It has been about 8 years since I have showed in this area of the country.  I am really looking forward to it! It is held at the Wilton Historical Society and is November 6-8, 2015.  See card below!

Impressionistic Landscape

Golden-Rod

A peaceful field of yellow 

I have so many good memories growing up of my mother.  I am so blessed to have had her.  I remember one of her very favorite things to do was to rise early and go and cut the wild flowers before the  hot sun made them sad.  Sometimes she would take me with her.  We had an old station wagon that she would drive in search of beautiful flowers growing freely along side the country roads.  

I was born and raised in a small Pennsylvania town that was near the countryside. There was an abundance of different roads to choose from.   She would pull along the roadside, cut the flowers, and then lay them in the back of the car wrapped in something to keep them from drying out.  Later once they had dried, she would make arrangements with them.  Golden Rod was a flower that she frequently picked and dried. 

Hudson River style 

The style of this painting is a little different than what you are accustomed to seeing me do, but it is nonetheless beautiful (if I may say so).  It looks easy to do because the colors are all run together, but it is surprisingly tricky to pull this off.  

The lonely tree

The lonely tree adds so much to this picture.  I suppose that nature is so wonderful and beautiful that it needs not any other plant or tree to make it complete.  Each created thing is a wonder in and of itself.  I think I wanted to add the tree, however, because it seemed as though it may be perceived as 'unfinished' without it.  Maybe the next one, I will leave the tree out - :) 

Like many of my pieces, the frames are not perfect.  These imperfections do not bother my eye in the least.  I think it adds to the painting.  This old frame was loved, almost to death! 

Here she is in her entirety.  "GoldenRod" will always remind me of my mother.  Thanks for looking.
