Apple Mug

Eat Apples Daily
A functional and decorative mug
by Kolene Spicher

Can you help me find my missing apples?

The bottom was heavy...sigh, I am a beginner!
This little mug isn't so little.  It's heavy too, but it is so cute.  I am thinking that it will turn out A-ok once it's fired.  Will survive the fire?  I believe!

Is it me or does she look like she is wearing a beehive?  I think we will call her Beehive lady!

The colors are rich on this, and not garish!  I will post more once it's fired!
Here are my missing apples!
Like all my art, this too is meant to be interactive.  I want people to look at this stuff and be curious, what's the message??
The vote is out on the inside being blue...I might just hate it.  We shall see.

Enjoy!

Painting for Spicher and Company and the upcoming High Point, NC Furniture Market, Entry 1

Everything is coming up Apples!

Its has been a while since I posted and maybe you thought I hung up my paint brush for a season, WRoNG! I am still at it.  Since the last time I posted, mid January, I have been busy painting trees, birds, apples, and bathing beauties.  I have some other things, too, that I have been working on but am not prepared to reveal it all at this time.
Nothing like a good Apple
They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Well…I am not going to say either way.  HOWEVER,  It does seems like I did better when I was consuming apples.  But, hey, if you say what you are doing, then you have people say, that if it is not medically proven, don't say it. Ok.  I won't say it.
I love this green.
I decided that I needed red ones too.  So I  went to the store and bought a bunch of different apples.  Now, I am eating them again daily.  Dare I say it??

Before the background…

There are so many varieties of apples.  I decided against labeling them.  If they have a label, then people want to know why you did not paint the apple that they eat.
I always ate this variety…

But now I eat this variety.
What is your favorite apple?  I am hoping that people like these.  Everyone loves apples and desserts made from apples.  Thanks for looking.  If you are interested in these prints, they will be available to the trade in April.  Go to www.spicherandco.com.

ENJOY!

Miniature Whaling Scene and mermaid

The Whalers and A Mermaid
Beautiful Gold leafed frame
This is an acrylic on paper technique painting.  I distressed the surface to slightly mimic the idea of it being a fresco.  It really has that look up and close.

Can you see the spackled qualities?
I named this painting "The Whalers".  Truth be told, I include that little title in nearly all of my whaling scenes and have for the last 20 years that I have painted them.  I love the long skinny feel of this painting and think that this would look fabulous on a dresser drawer.  Years ago, I painted landscapes on a dresser.  There were four drawers total (I think), and each one had a different landscape.

New England Nantucket/Cape Cod Styled house.
This is a relatively small painting compared to what I usually do, but I really loved the old frame.

Top painting is also available for purchase and both will be available November 6-8, 2015
at the Wilton Historical Society show
http://wiltonhistorical.org/americanartisanshow.html
I love the rich blues that are in each of these paintings.  If you know or have collected my work, most of the paintings hang well together.  I tend to use the same color palette.

Mermaid painting is called "She was the apple of his Eye"
This photograph gives you an idea of the scale of this piece.  You can see that it's not very large, but it is really sweet and I love the colors.

These paintings will be available at the Wilton Show in Wilton, CT. on November 6-8, 2015.  I don't have as much work as I sometime show, but each painting is really carefully done and I think it will be a good show.

Thanks for looking!

Enjoy!
