Show Paintings for September 2016 ~ The Bedminster Doylestown Art Show

Doylestown, PA Show (formerly called the Bedminster show)

in September 2016 

I am starting to stock pile paintings.  It is necessary for me to set aside artwork so that I am not painting "last minute" slipshod  artwork.  As I have said, I like to take my time and work thru the process and produce great stuff!! 

I removed the drape along the side as it was too distracting.  

I added ropes on either side of the red curtain and it looks really nice 

I got lucky when I picked up these frames on the two larger pieces, as they are identical in size.  I love how it all goes together.  Three of the four of these (above) were part of a painting that was all attached.  I decided that I disliked the frame and that it would sell better if they were smaller paintings.  

I love the crackled canvas.  Because they are not on paper, they are not behind glass.  

You can see how they all sort of meld together and the colors blend well.  This is important to me, as I want all of my artwork to hang well together, should you decide to buy them all! I added the little boater in the front left of the round piece.  That is why I included this piece in this batch, I know that I already had blogged about the round piece.

Kolene Spicher Angel Mermaid

She Finally Got her Wings!

New Frame

When it comes time to name these mermaids, I just seem to get an idea while painting them and I seldom get 'stuck'.   I don't start the painting with any solid direction.  I just know that I want to paint something MERMAID, and the title just comes to me.  I thought this was sort of funny and very "It's a wonderful life" like.  

I am running out of places to place these paintings (as far as taking photographs) I want the viewer to imagine the painting in their own environment.  I just love how the colors look with the seashells.  I love being able to just paint, too, with no solid direction.   

I like the crown. 

My signature ship is in the background like so many of my mermaid paintings.  

I think her etherial looking face is so pretty.

I also enjoyed painting the ocean with the suggestion of deep waves.  The color is a cold blue and it is a wonderful contrast to her warm tail and top color.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU CALL THIS STYLE…Crazy.  I was having a bit of fun today painting trying some new things and WALA! 

The first thing I did was craze the paper.  This is always an unpredictable thing to do to paper.  I am never sure how it will turn out.  But you know, I really like it.  

It has a sort of TRADER JOE's feel to it.  

The little ding on the right middle doesn't detract.  You don't notice it.  

I have been in love with gold ever since I fell in love with Restoration Hardware.  I love their wall of antique gold frames that hang in their flagship store in NYC.  I painted my walls grey in my living room because I LOVE IT that much!   I just can't seem to keep myself from buying every gold frame I find.  Back to the painting.

I've always been a fan of anything that has to do with a trophy.  Maybe it's because I never won one!!  I love the idea of all the competition and racing and sportsmanship that enter in to receiving a trophy.  I think they look really good in front of artwork, too, BTW.

The Whalers

Anchor Away! 

This painting is about a whale, a poor one, that is anchored to shore.  Don't get mad, I didn't paint him speared!  It's all in a day's work and all for fun.  

I normally paint the whale either black or white.  Whales are not only black (and they really aren't technically 'black') but they are other colors, too--such as, grey, white, brown, or tan.  This painting is missing the piece of glass that should be installed between the  two frames.  When I find the perfect wavy piece of glass, it will be assembled and I will update this blog entry and post this on ETSY. 

My favorite part of this painting is the little yellow house with blue windows.  I don't know why, but for some reason, I love the way this looks.  

While I am at it, I wanted to show you what my booth looked like at the Bedminster Art show in Doylestown a few weekends ago.  I had a really good show and continue to receive orders from this show.  I have some of the paintings still in stock as well as a few large prints of ships.  Let me know if you are interested in something that you have seen on this blog because I just might have it!
