Central Park After Dark

 Remember a few days ago, I posted a picture of a frame.  I mentioned that I was going to keep you updated on my progress.  Well, I thought it might be interesting to show to you the stages in which I paint.  As established, I start with the frame-ALWAYS.  If I try to do it the other way around, I end up spending more money trying to find an antique frame to fit my piece of art.

Then I choose the paper.  This time I decided to try to paint on a piece of paper that I had crackled.  It has its challenges but I think it will work.  Don't get too turned off yet,  it is only the beginning.   This is a little more "crazed" than I would like; however, it will work.

Truthfully, at the beginning, I thought this surface was a little scary to try to do any detail work.  Now that I have started, with each consecutive layer of paint, I am able to be more detailed.

Below you can see where I am at as far as the progress of the painting.  There is a lot to do yet and at some point, it will all magically just come together.  I am not there yet…Alas.  Ha!

I love New York City.  I think the people are very friendly.  No matter where I have traveled, everyone seems to welcome me and help me find my way around.

About a year ago, I purchased a book on Central Park.  The park seems to be filled with people during the day, but what does it look like at night?  Back in the early 1900s, I picture it a friendly place--even at night!  I imagine couples walking hand in hand in the moonlight.  I picture horses and sledding and children with their parents.  That is what I want to depict.  It is this feeling I am hoping to portray.  Smile.

Please feel free to offer any suggestions; hopefully, I will be able to add them.  Also, if there is something that doesn't make sense, please remember that I am a more interpretive painter.  That is my disclaimer.  I like things VERY MUCH to be fun!  Best!
